Rodie Akerman joined WBL in December 2007 from the National Literacy Trust, where she spent five years as Policy Analyst, focusing on the links between literacy and social inclusion, and the role of parents in supporting children’s development of literacy skills. She previously worked in the civil service and has a first degree in modern languages.
Responsibilities
- Advising the policy community on emerging findings related to WBL’s work
- Ensuring WBL is informed about emerging issues and priorities from Government departments and other agencies
- Producing synthetic reports, briefing documents and policy papers on key issues for policy, practice, research and other audiences
- Writing press articles for the general and specialist press to keep the sector informed about WBL activity
Research
Rodie is currently working on the following DCSF projects:
- Developing a typology of non-cognitive (‘wider’) skills
- Determinants of aspirations
- Patterns of friendship and peer group effects
