Applied statistical analysis
Quantitative research is undertaken to assess the extent to which lifelong learning has effects on a range of outcomes. Examples of findings include:
- Adult learning plays an important role in contributing to shifts in civic participation and attitudes.
- Adult learning is associated with increases in the likelihood of engaging in preventative health care.
- School success has long lasting benefits for health and well-being.
- Experiences of success or failure in school are strongly related to propensities to commit crime or engage in anti-social behaviour.
These differences in outcomes are important from the perspective of public finance as well as in terms of equity and wider social well-being.
